How to Replace a Power Jack in an Laptop

Your Acer Aspire laptop is powered by a rectangular battery on the underside of the computer. This battery gets its power from an AC cable that runs from a power outlet to a jack in the side of the laptop. If the power jack in your Acer becomes broken or damaged, you won't be able to charge the battery and your computer won't be able to operate. The good news is that it's possible to open up your Acer in order to replace a broken power jack.

Turn off your Acer Aspire and remove the AC cable. Remove the battery from its compartment on the underside of the computer. Close the screen and turn the computer upside down.

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove all screws from the underside of the laptop. Use your fingers to pull the CD/DVD drive from the side of the laptop.

Turn your laptop right-side up and open the screen. Insert the tip of your screwdriver in the seam where the plastic frame above the keyboard meets the side of the computer. Gently pry up to remove it.

Use your screwdriver to remove the single screw above the keyboard. Lift the keyboard up from the top and place it face down over the palm rest. Unplug the thick ribbon connector from the back of the keyboard and remove the keyboard completely.

Locate the two white cables in the top-right corner of the body of the computer. One is the video cable and the other is the keyboard bezel cable. Access them through the opening in the top frame of the laptop and unplug the cables from the motherboard.

Locate the screws on either side of the computer, just under the LCD screen. Remove the screws to free the LCD screen and set it aside.

Locate the two white cables in the center of the computer and disconnect them. Use your fingers to separate the top panel of the computer from the laptop. Set it aside. The green motherboard will now be completely exposed in the computer.

Locate the power jack in the corner of the board. Use your screwdriver to loosen the screws around the jack and then remove it. Replace it with the new jack (available from your Acer retailer or online) and reassemble your laptop in the reverse order you took it apart.
